App. State vs. Southern Miss Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAA Football game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Appalachian State vs. Southern Miss football game
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the App. State Mountaineers at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Southern Miss is limping into the game on a six-game losing streak.
Southern Miss gave up the first points and the most points last Tuesday. There's no need to mince words: Southern Miss lost to South Alabama, and Southern Miss lost bad. The score wound up at 55-3. Southern Miss was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-0.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, the Golden Eagles weren't very productive in the air and finished the game with only 46 passing yards. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as South Alabama passed for 360.
Meanwhile, the point spread may have favored App. State last Saturday, but the final result did not. They fell 28-21 to Old Dominion. App. State has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, App. State saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Joey Aguilar, who threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaedin Robinson, who picked up 103 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, App. State's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Leading the way was Nate Johnson and his two sacks.
Southern Miss' loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-6. That poor showing could be blamed on the team's lackluster offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.7 points per game. As for App. State, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
In addition to losing their last games, Southern Miss and App. State failed to cover the spread. As for their next game, App. State is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 17 points. For those looking to play the spread, careful betting on Southern Miss: they have a less-than-stellar 1-6 record against the spread this season.
