What to Know
The Utah Utes are 5-0 against the BYU Cougars since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success Saturday. They will face off against one another at 10:15 p.m. ET at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for the Utes last week. Everything went their way against the Weber State Wildcats as they made off with a 40-17 win. Utah was heavily favored coming into this matchup, and the results showcase why. They can attribute much of their success to RB Tavion Thomas, who rushed for two TDs and 107 yards on 12 carries.
Meanwhile, BYU was able to grind out a solid victory over the Arizona Wildcats last week, winning 24-16. The Cougars relied on the efforts of WR Neil Pau'u, who caught eight passes for two TDs and 126 yards, and QB Jaren Hall, who passed for two TDs and 198 yards on 28 attempts in addition to picking up 36 yards on the ground. One of the most thrilling moments was Pau'u's 67-yard TD reception in the second quarter.
BYU's defense was a presence as well, as it got past Arizona's offensive line to sack the QB four times for a total loss of 48 yards. It was a group effort with four guys contributing.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 1-0. Watch the game and check back on CBS Sports to find out who keeps up the positive energy and who hits a stumbling block.
