Beavers!
Oregon State pulls it off and takes down No. 15 Oregon 41-38.
Friday's college football slate served as a nice appetizer for the Saturday ahead, and also brought some affirmation of where teams were slotted in Tuesday's first College Football Playoff Rankings. In particular, No. 15 Oregon's ranking seemed more appropriate after the Ducks blew an 11-point halftime lead and lost 41-38 to rival Oregon State.
Some thought Oregon had been underrated in the debut CFP Rankings, but Friday ended that line of thinking while also bringing good results for a couple of other squads that some believed were overrated in the first poll. Take Iowa, for example. After checking in at No. 24 on Tuesday, the Hawkeyes received some criticism. But the they extended their winning streak to four games on Friday by sneaking past Nebraska 26-20 and proving that maybe they deserve to be ranked after all.
Finally, No. 13 Iowa State and No. 2 Notre Dame won as well to position themselves to maintain their positions in the rankings moving forward into Saturday as the college football season rolls on. The Cyclones knocked off No. 17 Texas 23-20, while the Fighting Irish handled No. 25 North Carolina 31-17.

Some early fireworks in Oregon-Oregon State.
Cal appeared to tie it up on a 3-yard TD run by Chris Brown Jr. with 50 seconds left. But the PAT was blocked. After a long conference, the officials stick with the call on the field. Barring an onside kick/recovery, Stanford will win 24-23.
Just like they drew it up, Chips. Central Michigan looking to put Eastern Michigan away.
No. 15 Oregon and Oregon State coming up. But Stanford is trying to ice it vs. Cal first. Cardinal driving while up 24-17 with seven minutes to go.
Good effort from UNC, but No. 2 Notre Dame marches on unbeaten.
Moral victories aren't worth much. But when you've won only game all season and keep it close against UCF, that's gotta be at least somewhat reassuring for Jeff Scott and the Bulls. UCF leading 45-28 early in the fourth.
Cal is dominating statistically but has been hurt by a couple turnovers. Bears just tied it up on this play in the third.
Notre Dame has now punted on seven of its last eight possessions after starting with two straight TDs. Notre Dame has the football and is driving while leading 24-17 with under six minutes left.
Would have been more impressive if he'd thrown it left-handed, IMO. But a nifty, very risky, play by Ian Book as the Fighting Irish drive and look to build on a 7-point lead in the fourth quarter.
A significant fourth quarter of college football is underway, with No. 2 Notre Dame leading No. 25 UNC 24-17. Tar Heels have the football.
