UNLV vs. Idaho State updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the UNLV vs. Idaho State football game
Game Recap
On Saturday, the UNLV Rebels turned the game against the Idaho State Bengals into a track meet and took the gold after outgaining them 554 yards to 238. UNLV put the hurt on Idaho State with a sharp 52-21 win. That result was just more of the same for the Rebels, who also won the last time these teams played (Sept. 26 of 2015).
The game started off well for UNLV, whose offense put up 45 first-half points. Idaho State countered with 7 points. Although UNLV wound up losing the second-half battle, they still had enough in reserve to win the war.
QB Doug Brumfield had a stellar game for UNLV as he passed for four TDs and 356 yards on 25 attempts. Near the top of the highlight reel was Brumfield's 72-yard TD bomb to WR Ricky White in the second quarter. RB Aidan Robbins also deserves a shout-out for his three TDs.
The Rebels' defense was a presence as well, as it got past the Bengals' offensive line to sack the quarterback five times for a total loss of 21 yards. It was a group effort with five guys contributing.
No one had a standout game offensively for Idaho State, but they got scores from QB Hunter Hays, WR Xavier Guillory, and WR Jalen Johnson. Tyler Vander Waal's 55-yard touchdown toss to Johnson in the first quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the afternoon. The matchup brought UNLV to 1-0 and dropped Idaho State to a mirror-image 0-1.
The Rebels will have some time to rest before their next contest, which is against the California Golden Bears at 4 p.m. ET in two weeks at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium. The Bengals are staying on the road in two weeks to face off against the San Diego State Aztecs at 8 p.m. ET Sept. 10 at Snapdragon Stadium.
