  • 49ers' Jauan Jennings: Calf injury an aggravation

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday that Jennings (calf) is dealing with an aggravation of the injury he dealt with during spring activities, Clayton Holloway of NFL Network reports.

Shanahan declined to offer an update on when Jennings, who left Sunday's practice early, will return. The calf issue Jennings previously dealt with during the offseason was downplayed as minor, and he had successfully passed his physical to start training camp, but it remains to be seen whether this aggravation has resulted in a more serious injury. Jennings had also expressed a desire for a new contract with San Francisco entering training camp, though by all appearances he had been taking part in practices without any sort of hold-in scenario. Meanwhile, Brandon Aiyuk (ACL) remains on the active/PUP list without a clear timetable to return, while Ricky Pearsall came off the active/PUP list Sunday but is sitting out Thursday's session for maintenance reasons, per Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area.

  • 49ers' Jauan Jennings: Leaves practice with inury

Jennings left practice Sunday due to a calf injury, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Jennings dealt with a minor calf injury during the offseason program, but he's been practicing since passing his physical to start training camp. It's unclear if the wideout now is dealing with a new injury or if he aggravated this previous calf issue. Jennings also has been practicing despite reports that he wants a new contract, and he doesn't appear to be in a hold-in scenario. It will be worth keeping an eye on his health as the 49ers approach their first preseason game versus the Broncos on Saturday, Aug. 9. San Francisco has been dealing with injuries around its wide-receiver room at the start training camp, as Brandon Aiyuk (knee) still is on the active/PUP list while recovering from a torn ACL, while second-year wideout Ricky Pearsall was activated Sunday after starting on the active/ PUP list with a hamstring injury.

  • 49ers' Jauan Jennings: Practicing Wednesday

Jennings participated in individual drills at the start of Wednesday's practice, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports.

Unlike position mate Brandon Aiyuk a season ago, Jennings isn't "holding in" (i.e. present but not practicing), despite recent reports that he is seeking a new contract. With Aiyuk out for the foreseeable future due to his recovery from a torn ACL and Deebo Samuel getting traded to the Commanders this offseason, Jennings is set to open the upcoming season as the 49ers' top option at wide receiver, but he currently is playing out the second season of the two-year, $15.4 million contract that he signed in May 2024. Jennings is coming off a 77-975-6 campaign on 113 targets across 15 regular-season contests, so an amended deal could be in his future.

  • 49ers' Jauan Jennings: Reports to camp, passes physical

Jennings (calf) reported to 49ers training camp and passed a physical Monday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Jennings missed some time during the offseason program due to a calf injury, but he's received a clean bill of health as the team kicks off camp. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported last week that Jennings was dissatisfied with his current contract and wanted a new one or a trade, but GM John Lynch said Monday that he "anticipates" the wide receiver will "be out there" at practice Wednesday, according to David Lombardi of SFStandard.com. With Brandon Aiyuk continuing to rehab a right knee injury that he suffered last October and having no timeline for his return, Jennings is set to begin this season as the 49ers' No. 1 wideout after putting together a 77-975-6 line on 113 targets over 15 regular-season games in 2024.

  • 49ers' Jauan Jennings: Wants new contract or trade

Jennings (calf) is unhappy with his contract and wants a new deal or a trade, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

A restricted free agent last offseason, Jennings ended up signing a two-year, $15.4 million contract to replace his RFA tender. He then broke out for 975 receiving yards in 15 games, with career highs for catch rate (68.1 percent) and yards per target (8.6). Jennings, 28, now looks like one of the top bargains among wide receivers that isn't on a rookie contract, and he's scheduled to make $7.5 million in the second and final season of his deal. He missed some of San Francisco's spring practices with a calf injury, but there's been no indication it's a serious issue ahead of training camp, leaving his contract situation as the real concern. While true holdouts are rare, Jennings may consider a so-called hold-in, whereby he'd show up to the facility for meetings and off-field work but wouldn't actually practice until he got a raise or extension.
