Should The Panthers Look Into Drafting A Quarterback With Their First Round Pick This Year?

Top Tommy Tremble News

  • Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Progressing well in recovery

Tremble (back) ran routes on the side during training camp Friday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

Tremble underwent back surgery in May and opened camp on the active/PUP list. The fifth-year tight end has been increasing his workload and "appears to be trending in a good direction," per Newton. It remains unclear, however, if Tremble will be ready to play in Week 1 of the regular season.

  • Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Should return in 3-to-4 weeks

Panthers coach Dave Canales said Wednesday that Tremble (back) won't practice soon but could be ready in 3-to-4 weeks, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

Tremble is on the active/PUP list for the start of training camp, and it sounds like he may remain there until mid-August or so, which puts his Week 1 availability into question. He had a procedure on his back in May, two months after re-signing with the Panthers on a two-year contract. Tremble is mostly known for his blocking, with 85 career catches in 61 games, while 2024 fourth-round pick Ja'Tavion Sanders is the favorite to be Carolina's top pass-catching TE.

  • Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Opens camp on active/PUP

The Panthers placed Tremble (back) on the active/PUP list Monday.

Tremble underwent a back procedure in May and will continue to rehab as training camp opens. He's expected to be ready ahead of Week 1. With Tremble idle to begin camp, second-year TE Ja'Tavion Sanders and fifth-round rookie Mitchell Evans will benefit from extra reps. While Tremble is expected to play a substantial role on offense this season, he's mainly used as a blocker. Sanders has late-round fantasy appeal as a catch-first, playmaking tight end.

  • Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Expected back by preseason

Tremble (back) is expected to retake the field during the preseason but isn't likely to be ready for the start of training camp, Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340 reports.

The tight end underwent surgery to address a back issue in mid-May, and while it was initially reported that Tremble was on track to return for the start of training camp, it sounds like his recovery will stretch until late August. That opens the door for second-year pro Ja'Tavion Sanders and rookie fifth-rounder Mitchell Evans to compete for expanded first-team reps and potentially even expanded regular-season roles. Tremble is the best blocker in Carolina's tight end corps however, which will assure him a significant role once he's fully healthy.

  • Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Expected back for training camp

Tremble underwent a successful procedure on his back last week, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Coach Dave Canales indicated Tuesday that Tremble is expected to be fully recovered at some point in training camp. Once the 2021 third-rounder returns to the field, he'll reclaim a role in a TE corps that features Ja'Tavion Sanders and 2025 fifth-rounder Mitchell Evans. In 12 contests last season, Tremble recorded 23 catches on 32 targets for 234 yards and two touchdowns.

  • Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Gets two-year deal with Carolina

The Panthers re-signed Tremble to a two-year contract Saturday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Tremble is coming off a solid 2024 campaign in which he logged 23 catches (on 32 targets) for 234 yards and two touchdowns across 12 regular-season games. The 2021 third-round pick has registered at least 20 catches in three of the first four seasons of his NFL career. Tremble and Ja'Tavion Sanders will likely serve as the Panthers' top two tight ends for the 2025 season.
