Analysis

Both FCS schools were 6-6 last year in different conferences, but Maine lost its quarterback and Towson brings its starter back. It's not quite that simple, but in this limited space it pretty much is. Carter Peevy started the past two years for Maine and will be replaced by Eddie "Ferris" Buehler. The redshirt sophomore has never taken a collegiate snap. Andrew Indorf (won a few state titles at a Florida prep powerhouse) had a terrific 2025 freshman season for Towson in earning CAA Co-Rookie of the Year and finishing 15th nationally in the Jerry Rice Award voting for top freshman of the year in FCS. There are FCS models and the ones I check all have the Tigers by at least three.

Analysis

Kansas City had its nine game winning streak snapped on Wednesday but I think they get back on track with Noah Cameron on the hill in Toronto on Thursday. In August, Cameron is 3-0 with a 1.63 in four starts for the Royals. Current Blue Jays are only 3 for 20 (.150 average) against the left hander. I'm also inclined to fade Toronto starter Spencer Arrighetti, who puts runners on base at a high clip (1.35 WHIP). Give me the Royals to win the series in Toronto.

Analysis

I was very annoyed when the Giants switched pitchers late on Wednesday and didn't start Landon Roupp. But fortunately their bullpen gave up seven runs in the 9th inning and I got a gift victory with the Reds. Now Roupp is slated to throw on Thursday against the Diamondbacks. Since May, San Francisco is 2-17 when the right hander pitches. It's literally unfathomable to think about considering the Giants were 5-1 when Roupp took the hill in March and April. Arizona is scheduled to start Jose Cabrera, who was not successful earlier this season, but I'm still fading the lowly Giants and Roupp when I can.

Diamondbacks rookie Jose Cabrera allowed no runs over five innings in his debut, then over the next three starts gave up 11 runs over 12.2 IP. Now he’s back from a minor league stint in which he posted a 6.83 ERA in 29 IP. The Giants' OPS of .748 over the last two weeks is notably better than the D'backs' .689. We'll trust Giants RHP Landen Roupp to fight through 4-5 frames and hand it to a pen with a 2.52 ERA since mid-August.

Analysis

The two Los Angeles teams close out their preseasons against each other, and it's no question the Rams have been the better team despite not playing anyone of consequence. Even with that strategy, players like Jarquez Hunter, CJ Daniels and Max Klare have been effective on offense, and their QBs have played well. The Chargers have been hit or miss but I have much less confidence in their offense here, so I love getting the hook with the Rams in the preseason closer.
